Blender 3.0 was just released in it’s first alpha and there is a lot coming in the near future for the popular open source graphics application as outlined in the Blender 2021 development roadmap. Over on the Blender Development Blog they just released details of what to expect in the near future.
The TL;DR version of key projects being worked on:
- Asset browser and pose library
- Library overrides
- Geometry nodes
- Vulkan
- Grease Pencil
- Blender 2.93 LTS
- Cycles development
- Animation character pipeline
- USD importer
- Blender 3.0 – user interface workshop
Additionally the following were highlighted as other development ideas being considered:
- Independent physics clock in viewports
- Mesh editing optimization
- Brush manager for painting and sculpting
- Snapping improvements
- Real time viewport video compositor
- Collections settings for persistent I/O and baking
- Restrictive overrides
- Collection nodes
- Dynamic particles
