ZRythm is a DAW, or digital audio workstation, that just officially hit the critical 1.0 alpha release. With the alpha moniker you can of course expect some crashes and incomplete features. ZRythm is open source under the AGPL license with the source code hosted on GitHub. ZRythm works on Windows, Mac and Linux, with time/save limited demo binaries available. If you want the “full” version of ZRythm you need to build it yourself from source, or support the project financially.
Features of ZRythm include:
Limitless automation
Automate almost anything with automation events using straight lines, ramps and curves, or with LFOs and envelopes.
Audio plugins
Complete support for LV2 and VST2, with experimental support for VST3, AU, SFZ and SF2.
Multi-backend support
Fully JACK aware, including support for JACK transport, ALSA, WASAPI, Windows MME, CoreMidi and CoreAudio.
Chord assistance
Featuring a chord pad for quickly trying out chords in a scale and a chord track to help with chord progressions.
Liberating
Zrythm is free software. Use, study, share and improve it freely.
Multilingual
Available in multiple languages including English, French, Galician, Portuguese, Japanese and German.\
Building ZRrythm on Windows requires MingW tools to be installed, as well as several other steps defined here, although truthfully I never got it to work. When running the trial you may get an error message that a DLL (fftw) is missing, you can download that DLL here. You can learn more about ZRythm in the hands-on video below (or on Odysee here). The loops used in the video are from the (about to expire) Mega Sound Designer Loot Create bundle.
